Nunzio Discepola (born November 27, 1949) is an Italian-born Canadian politician.
Discepola was a Member of Parliament representing the Liberal Party of Canada in the Canadian House of Commons, from the riding of Vaudreuil-Soulanges between 1997 and 2004, and Vaudreuil from 1993 to 1997. Discepola is a former businessman. Discepola is a former parliamentary secretary to the solicitor general of Canada.
A dedicated representative of his constituents, Nick Discepola was first elected to the House of Commons in 1993 and re-elected in 1997 and 2000.
He was appointed copresident of the national platform election committee by Prime Minister Paul Martin in January 2004 and was Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee on Finance. He also served on the Prime Minister’s Task Force on the four Western provinces and chaired the sub-committee on Tax Equity for Canadian families with dependent children in 1999. He served as President of the Quebec Caucus, Parliamentary Secretary to the Solicitor General from 1996–1998 and was also a member of the Standing Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs, Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities, Environment, and National Safety and Security.
Mr. Discepola served on Kirkland municipal council for 10 years and mayor from 1989-1993. Under his administration, Kirkland was named one of the top-10 towns in Canada for its quality of life and for its administration. He was President of the Economic Development Commission, member of the executive committee of the Montreal Urban Community, vice-president of the Island of Montreal Intermunicipal Waste Management Board and the West Island Industrial Development Council.
Before founding his own company in the high tech sector “N.D. Computer Resources” at the age of 26, he worked for Bell Canada and the federal government as a computer specialist.
Mr. Discepola holds a Bachelor of Science (1972) and an MBA(1977) from McGill University.
He and his wife, Mary Alice, have four children, Lisa, Laura, Michele, and Marco.
